Genre Research: What are the conventions of rock music?

The one significant convention of rock music that I have picked up on whilst watching the various music videos is that instruments are a dominant fixture with dark colour schemes put across to portray a gothic feel. Other conventions include:

• Heavy guitar solo's throughout
• Fast pace shots linked to the tempo of music
• There is usually a narrative followed and clips from live performances
• The clothing is very dark, gothic and over the top
• Strange locations and settings
• The instruments seen usually have the bands logo on them, this could be for advertising the band and so that people have a visual memory of what the bands logo is when browsing stores or the internet.
• The lyrics in the songs are usually negative in some way
